Warm and Cool

Description

Assignment for my Color Theory class. We had to create two abstract images, one using a warm color scheme, the other a cool color scheme. Composition-wise I like the cool side, but I really wasn't feeling it when I did the warm side.

Also, those black lines aren't actually supposed to be there. We painted on a warped grid, but I didn't build up enough paint to completely cover it, as is woefully obvious on the warm side.

On that note, I'm finding it harder to make the paint opaque when it's straight out of the tube than with mixed paints. Does anyone have any suggestions for making it opaque? Or is it just a matter of more layering? I did like four layers on the cool side, but you can still see the grid under the dark blue. I'm using Liquitex BASICS (student-grade) acrylics.

Yeah I like the "cool" side better too. The painted edges are cleaner. Also I'm a fan of seafoam green. XD

That said, I do really like the random small red squares on the "warm" side.

As for painting advice, I'm sorry to say I've never used acrylics outside of crafting. But if you were concerned about the grid showing through, my first thought is to just put down an opaque white primer layer first before adding the colors. ^^;
